New Jersey Audubon Society (NJAS) is a statewide, nonprofit membership organization with a threefold mission of conservation, environmental education and research. NJAS provides programs about nature, habitat diversity, and environmental issues for members, educators, government officials and the general public. The Society maintains nine staffed sanctuaries with a professional staff of teachers/naturalists who implement programs throughout the community. NJAS oversees a statewide, school-based watershed and land use study program for middle school and high school students. This includes teacher professional development workshops using the New Jersey WATERS and Fishing for Answers in an Urban Estuary curricula materials as well as running the NJAS School of Ecology, a student-based summer institute. Currently, NJAS is also a partner in the New Jersey Project WET program that includes teacher professional develoment, water festivals for schools and the Watershed Stewards program.
