Celebrating 15 years of land preservation successes, Delaware & Raritan Greenway is central New Jersey’s regional land trust, a non-profit organzation founded in 1989. We permanently preserve watershed lands and large-scale landscapes, thereby preventing the loss of open space to development. Our operation region consists of over 1,500 square miles, encompassing portions of the Delaware, raritan and Millstone River watersheds and the D & R Canal. This included all of Mercer County and parts of Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Burlington, and Monmouth counties. We have a staff of 7 full-time and 5 part-time professionals. Our Mission is to help safegaurd the water quality, environment and livability of our region by establishing Greenways. Greenways are unbriken chains of preserved open space surrounding stream corridors, headwaters, water recharge areas and significant ecosystems. We also encourage effective stewardship and management of this land and promote educational and recreational usage consistent with protection of its resources. Since 1989, D & R Greenway has preserved 7,231 acres of land valued at over $138.4 million. In 2005, D & R Greenway will open The Greenway Center, a focal point for land preservation in central New Jersey and a place where partners can learn, share resources, and collaborate to leverage land preservation results.
