The Monmouth County Planning Board recognizes the importance of planning for the future through resource protection and environmental education. School programs and community education programs, offered throughout the year are related to watershed ecology, management and planning, non-point source pollution prevention and abatement, solid waste education and general land use planning. Specific programs include a traveling watershed model, a series of Non-Point Source Coloring Books with lesson plans, water quality monitoring training and an Earth Day Fair with educational competitions. At least two round-table workshops are held annually for the environmental community, as well as one annual teacher workshop. The County Planning Board holds monthly meetings and publishes two newsletters, the Monmouth Planner and Eco-Logic. The latter is published in conjunction with the County Environmental Council, which is an advisory body to the Planning Board. The Board also publishes a series of environmental brochures called “Eco-Tips”. Brochure topics include “What is a Watershed”, “Problem Geese” and “Eco-Tips for Lawns and Gardens.”
