Bergen SWAN is dedicated to preserving and restoring the forested buffer lands around northern Bergen County's drinking water supply reservoirs. The organization provides communities within the Upper Hackensack River Watershed with open space preservation assistance and educational outreach activities related to watershed management principles. Recently, Bergen SWAN helped create and open to the public guided nature trails on preserved lands in Emerson and River Vale, NJ. It helps defend and develop conservation easements and land protection regulations. SWAN runs the Upper Hackensack River Watershed GIS Center, providing maps and environmental resource info to community groups and government agencies.
