The Passaic River Coalition (PRC) is a nonprofit watershed organization founded in 1969 and governed by a Board of Trustees. The PRC’s goals reflect the need for careful resource management and conservation in the 935 square mile Passaic River Basin in northern New Jersey and southern New York State. Over the years, the PRC has led important initiatives related to flood management, ground water management, water quality improvement, enhanced water supply management, and increased recreational and natural areas. The PRC is involved in a wide variety of programs which reflect the diverse issues and challenges affecting the Passaic River Watershed. Included in these programs are the Blue Acres Program, Passaic Valley Groundwater Protection Committee, North Jersey Water Quality Study Committee, PRC Land Trust, Passaic River Restoration Project, Ramapo River Committee, Upper Passaic River Riparian Conservation Project, and various other federal and state task forces and project committees. The PRC publishes a biannual newsletter, and is also involved in stream cleanups, community outreach, public seminars and workshops.
