The Rockaway Watershed Partnership is comprised of the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, Morris County Planning Board, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, Morris Area Development Group, Friends of the Rockaway River, and municipal and county officials. This organization has developed a long-term plan for the protection and restoration of the Rockaway Watershed, including community-based planning, personal outreach, and public meetings. One of the program’s goals is to identify and characterize the underdeveloped, contaminated and underutilized land within the Rockaway Watershed where current or prior use impacts the water quality in the watershed and public water supplies. Among other objectives, the program will provide strategies for the protection and redeveloping of properties, as well as educational and outreach programs to encourage stakeholder participation.
