The Burlington County Soil Conservation District (BCSCD) is a political subdivision of the State of New Jersey working under the guidance of the NJ Department of Agriculture. The District is charged with implementing the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Act to control and reduce erosion and sedimentation on construction sites. District staff reviews soil erosion and sediment control plans, and District inspectors monitor construction activity at over 5,000 sites to ensure that erosion control measures are in place, adequate, and used properly. The District sponsors an annual seedling sale to encourage residents to participate in the conservation effort by creating wind breaks, wildlife habitats, and replenishing these renewable resources. BCSCD is offering a watershed education program to local schools in an effort to educate residents, through students, about non-point source pollution. This program is designed to be a collective, hands-on experience, and is the next step toward promoting watershed awareness within Burlington County. In the future, the Burlington District hopes to implement a variety of watershed improvement projects and establish an on going monitoring program.
