The Upper Maurice River Watershed Group was recently established to increase public watershed awareness, assess the watershed’s condition, and identify watershed problems to help determine the best management practices. Both the Advisory Group and the water monitoring subcommittee hold monthly meetings to discuss current issues and activities. Some of the watershed activities have included “water watch survey” Workshops, Environmental Education Workshops, lake and stream walks, and Water Monitoring Training. Likewise, the group is currently working on upcoming programs such as a storm drain stenciling and the Watershed Festival, which is planned for the summer of 1998. All programs offered by the Upper Maurice River Watershed Group are available to the general public. The Scotland Run Nature Center publishes a general newsletter Nature Network, and the Watershed Group publishes an informational brochure detailing current programs and projects.
