The Barnegat Bay Watershed and Estuary Foundation (formerly The Barnegat Bay Watershed Association) was formed to help promote a healthy ecosystem throughout the Barnegat Bay Watershed. The organization works with many partners towards conservation and protection of soil, forest, water, shorling, fish and wildlife, as well as the restoration and conservation of all natural resources of the watershed. The association sponsors and cosponsors various public programs throughout the seasons. Such programs include eco-tours of sub-watersheds during Barnegat Bay Festival, participation in the land conservation panel at the County Library, and staffing watershed education exhibits at local shows. The Association offers educational programs in conjunction with Rutgers Cooperative extension on topics ranging from sensitive pine barrens plans to personal watercrafts. The BBWA has sponsored a watershed boundary signage program, and will soon be instituting a similar program at waterfront access sites. Watershed Waves, BBWA’s newsletter, is mailed to all members quarterly, and is available to the public at local Nature Centers and other public locations within the 660 square miles of the Barnegat Bay Watershed.
