The Ocean County Soil Conservation District (OCSCD) is a subdivision of the Department of Agriculture, Division of Rural Resources, (1) enforces new Jersey’s Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Act in Ocean County, (2) conducts an extensive education program, and (3) is involved in the research and development of techniques to improve water quality in Barnegat Bay. The educational programs that are sponsored by OCSCD include seminars and workshops, conservation contests for students and adults, an Arbor Day seedling porgram, and an extensive library of natural resource booklets, brochures, posters, videos, and teachers’ packets. OCSCD also publishes The Tutor, a quarterly newsletter for educators and youth group leaders. Most recently, OCSCD has initiated a Watershed Education Roundtable, which regularly brings educators together to discuss and develop watershed protection curriculum for Ocean County schools.
